Rust and External Air Conditioning Units

Rust and External Air Conditioning Units This is a very common sight we come across while working near coastal areas. The Salt in the air causes corrosion to the metal. The first point to note would be safety, as this unit will eventually have no bottom or support and will just fall through the support bars. The next worry is that the support for the fan will eventually give way and that will cause the fan to damage other internal parts like the coil. Also the corrosion over time may effect the coil and pipes causing pitting, which make tiny pin holes and causes gas to leak out. Other issues we have come across are pcb board failure due to corroded components on the board, again caused by sea air, in this case the board needed to be replaced. We have also seen ceased fans. In some instances the units and parts can be repaired, but in some cases need to be replaced. We advise that units in sea side locations be sprayed with a special coating, protecting them from the sea air.
